Ty Thompson

Instructor

Ty is an Aussie born Māori who sticks to his roots by living and breathing fishing, with a background rooted in the rugged beauty of Western Australia. Growing up in the Perth hills, Ty’s childhood was filled with vivid memories of exploring the outdoors and encountering the wildlife that came with it. One childhood memory of his was the wild southwest carpet python he often found in his pop’s hay shed.

Ty’s professional journey took him deep underground as an underground diamond driller. It was during this time, while working away from home, that he frequently encountered venomous snakes. These encounters didn’t just evoke caution—they further fueled his passion for reptiles. This interest led Ty to become an avid snake keeper and, eventually, a successful snake breeder in Western Australia.

Ty has been working with Snake R&R Training for the last year and is now a qualified snake handling trainer, providing courses around WA that compliment his enduring connection with the natural world and his commitment to reptile education and conservation.
